THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU LEAVE

  1 Month before you move

c

Call moving companies, arrange for survey of your goods and get estimates

c

Segregate items to be moved according to mode of transport - Road, Air, Sea

c Decide items to be stored / disposed

c

Create a "move file" to keep track of estimates, receipts and other important information.

c

Make a list of important person / organisations to be notified about change of address

c

Collect all the items you may have loaned out

c

Collect Refunds & Deposits

c

Decide if you will keep your plants or give them away.(Generally plants cannot be loaded with your other household goods in International Moving.)

c

Back up your personal computer



  2 Weeks before you move

c

Select Mover and confirm all arrangements for moving

c

Utilise all cleaning supplies & perishable foods

c

Confirm your hotel accommodation



  The day befor you move

c

Keep all your important documents, keys & goods in a safe place to avoid them being packed with your shipment

c

Pack your personal clothes, shoes, toiletries and prepare for travel

c

Empty, defrost and clean your refrigerator. Make sure it has at least 24 hours to air dry.

c

If you're moving out of a building with elevators, arrange with management for use of elevators.

c

If you're moving out of a building with security, arrange with management for gate pass.

c

Clean and air your stove.

c

Give instructions to Drivers, Maids etc. if any.



  The moving day

c

Make sure everything is ready for the move.

c

Show all your goods to the supervisor and inform what needs to be packed first and what needs to be packed last.

c

After packing, check all rooms, cupboards, garage etc to make sure that all items have been packed.

c

Inform packers if you have purchased or received any new items or decided to take any additional items not mentioned during the pre move-survey

c

Sign and retain a copy of the inventory

c Check meter readings of electrical / water connections
c

Lock & hand over house keys to those concerned

c

Leave your forwarding address and phone number for your home's new occupants.



THINGS TO DO BEFORE GOODS ARRIVE


  On arrival at new destination

c

Contact your destination agent to notify your arrival and confirm your date for delivery, address for delivery and contact numbers

c

Complete and submit import Customs forms & other important documents for clearance of shipment (Eg. photocopies of passport and letter from employer


  Prior to goods delivey

c

Complete the Cleaning of new premises 2 days before delivery

c

Give some thought to the actual placement of furniture or heavy items

c

Label rooms for easy placement of individual boxes and furniture (Eg. Master bedroom, baby's, living room etc)



  The day goods arrive:

c

Keep copy of Inventory and direct them to the respective rooms and ensure all items are received

c

Once all the goods are received & counted, let the movers unpack your cartons and remove the debris at the end of the day. Generally, it is best to unpack in 1 or 2 rooms at a time

c

Let the movers know if you want to unpack certain boxes on your own

c

Look for any visible signs of damage and note them on the delivery report. File a claim with photographs of the damages as soon as possible and notify your mover.
