- Days in India: The transferee should not have stayed in India for more than 180 days during the two years preceding their return.
- Previous TR Claims: Must not have claimed TR benefits in the last three years.
These criteria are important to ensure that the individual qualifies for the duty-free import of personal belongings and other items under the TR regulations.
What are the Documentation for Foreign Nationals?

Can I import clear shipment without original passport?
No. In India, importing a shipment under Transfer of Residence (TR) typically requires the submission of certain documents, including an original passport. The passport serves as proof of identity and residency status. However, if the original passport is unavailable, here are a few points to consider:
- Customs Regulations: Indian customs generally requires the original passport for clearance of goods under TR. This is to verify the identity of the person making the claim and to confirm their residency status abroad.
- Alternative Documentation: If you do not have your original passport, it may be possible to provide alternative documentation. This could include:
- A copy of the passport (though this is usually not sufficient alone).
- A temporary or emergency passport, if applicable.

- Import duty on the 100% shipment at 38.50% will be imposed by the customs with some additional admin fees by your destination agent
How many pets are allowed under TR?
Under the Transfer of Residence (TR) provisions in India, individuals are generally allowed to bring in their 2 pets without incurring customs duties.
It’s advisable to check the latest regulations from the Ministry of Agriculture or consult with a destination agent to ensure compliance with all requirements. As obtaining NOC is key aspect of the move.
What are the Prohibited items?
Fireworks, Flammable items, Lithium Battery, Hazardous items, Drones, Currency, Stamps, Maps, Human Remains or Components – like ashes., Ivory, Clothing or Articles made from Animals – like cow skin, Fur Skin, Shark Fins, Mobile Phone without IMEI number, Narcotics, Tobacco, Liquor (will attract heavy duty on the percentage of liquor components), Vape Products, Plants, Pornographic Material, Gold or Silver ornaments, Old passport / visa and other Govt. Identity proofs original or photocopy.
Can we import new items in India under TR?
Yes, a duty of 38.50% will be applicable on the customs assessed value. If you have purchase bills available, they can be used as supporting documentation.
Can container delivery take place at my residence directly in India
Unless your shipment is classified as a diplomatic shipment, we cannot release the container. This is in accordance with customs and government regulations.
What are the Estimated Clearance Times for Shipments
- Air Shipments: 3 to 4 business days, depending on the completion of operational activities. Please note that the airport authority operates Monday to Friday.
- Sea LCL (Less than Container Load): 12 to 15 business days.
- Sea FCL (Full Container Load): 5 to 7 business days.
